The Mekong Inclusive Growth Forum is an initiative of FDC, the Banking with the Poor Network (BWTP) and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), in partnership with Appui au Développement Autonome (ADA), the Greater Mekong Sub-Region Business Council (GMSR-BC) and the Fiscal Policy Office of Thailand’s Ministry of Finance. The 2018 Forum is jointly hosted by the Thailand Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
The Forum has been established as a way to enhance economic development in the region by identifying priority actions and facilitating greater cooperation between Mekong countries. The Forum provides a platform for industry experts and senior government officials to discuss, debate and prioritise key actions that can be taken to enable and accelerate development outcomes for the region; including the opportunities being enabled through innovative digital technologies. This dialogue will focus on achieving four core objectives:
- To increase levels of understanding among government officials on critical issues to aid in the development and/or reformation of policies and regulations which enable equitable growth and shared prosperity.
- To identify and form consensus among stakeholders on effective development strategies and practical solutions to improve inclusive growth prospects and outcomes.
- To identify knowledge gaps and produce recommendations for where additional research could accelerate results.
- To facilitate increased levels of continuing dialogue and cooperation between governments, businesses, and community stakeholders to address common challenges, share technical expertise, implement pilot programs and measure results.
