India Workshop


The workshop was held between the 29th November and the 1st December 2006 in Gurgaon - India and was jointly organized by the BWTP network, EDA-Rural Systems and the FAO.

The workshop addressed the core issues of service expansion, including a) sourcing capital to enable expansion in on-lending and b) diversifying financial services, and particularly provision of insurance, money transfer services and equity investment. It introduced the various forms of linkages which are available to institutions, and consider the practical issues that need to be addressed to forge mutually satisfactory partnership arrangements.

It targeted institutions from the North East of India and small organizations less experienced in building and maintaining partnerships arrangements.This was an interactive and practically based intensive workshop combining classroom teaching, case studies and panel discussion, with guest speakers from leading Indian organizations that have led the world in microfinance linkage approaches, and members of the BWTP network such as FWWB, BWDA and Ing Vysya Bank. Moderators and resource people for the workshop included international experts in the field, such as Sanjay Sinha and Ragini Chaudhary from EDA Rural Systems, independent consultant and well known microfinance expert, Malcolm Harper, Paul Greener of the Foundation for Development Cooperation, and Maria Pagura of the FAO.
