VisionFund Cambodia won 2 out of 3 awards given by Oikocredit: ESG Award for Outreach and Inclusion as well as the top recognition – Outstanding Achievement in Social Performance

VisionFund Cambodia as a social oriented microfinance institution (‘MFI’) with a mission to improve the lives of Cambodian children and community was bestowed another recognition by receiving two awards, the Outstanding Achievement in Social Performance and Award for Outreach and Inclusion (reaching disadvantaged clients) from Oikocredit, a leading global investor based in Netherlands, with a regional office in Southeast Asia. The Oikocredit ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) Award is a formal recognition given by Oikocredit Southeast Asia to selected partners who have consistently exhibited exceptional institutional accomplishments in social performance.

Oikocredit’s citation noted VisionFund Cambodia’s consistency in reaching out to disadvantaged groups, its strong adherence to client protection principles at the level of policies, procedures and staff compliance, its sizeable loans to the agricultural sector and its efforts to offer its clients varied services ranging from loans to child protection and health programs.

“Oikocredit gives the awards to partners who consistently exhibit exceptional institutional accomplishments in social performance. We wish to promote good practices and reward excellence in social performance among partners, especially in the areas of the environment, social goals and governance. That’s why it’s called the Environment, Social and Governance Award,” said Mr. Kok Kao, Country Manager of Oikocredit’s office in Cambodia.

Both Awards were presented by Oikocredit’s President, Ms. Salome Sengani and Managing Director, Mr. David Woods to Mr. Chann Savoeung Chief Financial Officer of VisionFund Cambodia during the occasion of Oikocredit Annual General Meeting on 13 June 2013 at Grand Soluxe Angkor Hotel, Siem Reap.

“These awards do not belong to only VisionFund Cambodia but to all the stakeholders e.g. NBC, lenders, development partners, donors, CMA, local authorities and especially the clients who have used the loans rightly and effectively for the benefits of their children, families and communities. We wish to dedicate these awards to those stakeholders because VisionFund Cambodia would not be able to achieve such marvelous performances without their continuing supports and contribution. Apart from the above awards, VisionFund Cambodia has also been honored with many awards and recognitions from international raters and agencies in social performance, banking and microfinance sector such as Platinum Award from Microfinance Information Exchange (2011), Top Five Diamond Rating from MIX (2012), and many others” said Mr. Chann Savoeung, CFO of VisionFund Cambodia.

As the biggest international network of MFI in more than 35 countries in the world, VisionFund International has been serving the poor of around 800,000 families worldwide through providing financial service with portfolio of more than US$ 400 million. And in Cambodia, VisionFund is ranked as number 3 in term of outreach by serving the poor of more than 150,000 families and making positive impact to the life of more than 500,000 children across the country.
